JRAC subscribes to establishing strong connection and “sense of community and belonging” for all its members, therefore no one is just a statistics.
We endeavour to provide a platform for runners of all capabilities and ambitions, and support them in discovery of their hidden potentials.
We do our best to recognize and nurture runners’ abilities and support the members with the ultimate objective to enable them to achieve their ambitions.
So why do I need to join a club? I mean I can wake up an run, I still buy my own race entry, drive to the race and run? What value will be joining a club? What will they do with my joining fee? Well, since joining JRAC, I learnt that a club is like having a family who’s always keen to do what you like to do. It’s having friends who brave the rain only to support you at your race. It’s having friends who sacrifice their whole Saturday, just to give you the much needed mageu at 32km mark. It’s having brothers and sisters wait to encourage you when you just can’t run anymore. It’s having a personal physio when the road is ever so tough an the legs are cramping. It’s having someone cheer you on, someone waiting for you at home base with a warm blanket, a snack and whatever else your body desires. It’s having friends run with you at 4:30 every morning. It’s having private security run back and forth to make sure you are still safe. It’s having a coach to help you stretch, to pace you and to push you to your potential. It’s having someone to celebrate great runs with and someone to sulk bad runs with. It’s having your ASA admin done for you It’s having access to last minute race entries It’s sharing a ride to the race It’s having access to any advise you need from flu remedies to anti-chuff creams to blister management. It’s having someone help you find accommodation when you’ve been scammed at a out of town race. It’s having someone there, ready to do whatever you need for you to have an even greater run. All these havings for just R600 a year🤷🏽♀️...
“Guys I’m still scared . I’m in the car keeping warm and recollecting thoughts. This medal of my first marathon ever and it’s qualifying time (which I won’t use) in my life is dedicated to this wonderful family of runners. You have transformed me and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to @Baks JRAC and @Tshepi JRAC for the strategy until I was failed by cramps. Thank you @Penny Shabangu and @Rami Masango for pushing me to overcome the pain and not giving up on me when the pain almost overpowered me. This number will hold a special place in my heart” This was the message I send to our running Club WhatsApp group. When my wife started running I never understood what she was experiencing and could not relate to anything that she experienced. This will probably come as a shock to many. I started running end of July 2018 for fitness and health reasons. The club trains in the morning at 4:30 and it seemed like a good thing which wouldn’t impact with my busy schedule. By virtue of joining the club I had an my first ASA licence which was issued to me. I never even used the number on any of the marathons simply because ; I never ran them. I was just comfortable with training and attending races just to take photos as I was nominated to be on the marketing team. I even accompanied my wife to 2 Two oceans Marathon events without any aspirations of participating. Most people couldn’t believe that I had no intention in running marathons and unfortunately that was the truth and my reality. I remember some members were persistent in stating that I should try marathons or even a short 21km race and still I never did any for the rest of 2018. 2019 came then I paid for membership which included my new licence. The training continued with JRAC and I just saw myself improving with time and setting personal records and goals without anyone knowing. The motivation the club gave me made me want to achieve more. It is difficult to train and belong to JRAC and not be motivated as the club oozes positive energy from everyone. I remember I hadn’t done a long run before and decided to do one on a Saturday club run. Since my body wasn’t used to long runs I guess it is safe to say it showed me flames. The 30kms I was supposed to do was reduced to 24kms of torture. I then started to understand the dynamics of endurance and pace. I attempted another club run with the advice of one of our members Ida and followed her strategy and it worked. To cut the long story short, I have managed to be in a position where the story started with confidence. As I am writing this testimony at 11:30 in the 09/04/2019 I have just went against my plan not to run the comrades marathon by accepting a substitute entry which was offered. I don’t believe this is a coincidence that things unfolded this way. I believe God has a plan for me and I will have decided to take it with faith and put everything in his hands and attempt the comrades marathon. I am grateful to every single member of Just Running Athletics Club from the bottom of my heart for this impact in my life. Last and definitely not least, I want to personally thank my wife for introducing me to Running accidentally.
I can't do this, it's not for me, I'm not ready. It was one cold, Saturday morning in July 2018 - When I had to wake up for a six kilometer run with my hubby. He took me to a different place and I got the fright of my life to find a pack of women who were ready to run that morning.I was really intimidated without knowing the beautiful family I was about to get to know. After five kilometres of running the ladies were sprinting off and I was lagging behind. My hubby advised me to run home when he realised this but the burning determination in me refused, she said "no". I had wanted to do the whole 21 kilometers like the other ladies. At 10kms one dynamite, a wonderful soul- that is Vovo - turned back and insisted to pace me, regardless of my resistance to be paced. Little did I know the power in her selfless gesture. She patiently ran with me and celebrated my finish at 18 kilometers. That cold, Saturday, morning in July marked my humble begining with my wonderful JRAC family. To date I've managed to run two 21 kilometer races, five 42 kilometers races and one 48 kilometre race. All of which had only been a pipe dream on that very first, cold, Saturday morning in July. JRAC has helped me mine all these possibilities in the hidden capabilities of my abilities.
